Rewards are very motivating! I compiled this list of FREE reading reward programs, to help encourage your child to read more. Some programs are available yearly while others are only offered during the summer, and a couple on my list are local to Riverside, CA….. Read over the list and see which programs would work well for your family, class or group!
- Audio Books Sync – During the summer teens 13+ will be able to download 2 Free audiobooks a week.
- BAM! Books-A-Million “Summer Reading Adventure” – Child reads any four books from the summer reading adventure and they receive a free drawstring backpack.
- Barnes & Noble “Book Your Summer” – Read 8 Books, log the name and favorite part of the book in your journal, and receive a free book! (Teens and adults can participate in this program).
- Chipotle “Reading is Fundamentally delicious” – This program is for groups, teachers and homeschool co-ops, from what I understand. I will look into it further but it looks like they are not accepting applications at this time.
- Chuck E. Cheese Rewards – Download the Reading Rewards calendar. Your child reads a book a day for two weeks, earning them 10 free play points. (They have many other reward calendars and certificates to earn more play points).
- In-N-Out “Cover to Cover” – A school principal has to order rewards on behalf of the school. At this time, individuals cannot participate.
- Junie B Jones Kids’ Reading Club – Download the reading log and activity brochure.
- Pizza Hut “BOOK IT!” – Your child reads 20 books 0r 20 minutes, earning them a free personal pan pizza. Log the number of books online when they meet their goal they receive a coupon code for their pizza.
- Pony Hayvin Ranch in Riverside, CA has the “Wild West Book Club” – that meets at the🐴 ranch.
- Professional Sports Teams – Many professional sports teams have programs that encourage reading. Check with your local or favorite team to see if they have a reading program. (If they do please let me know).
- Scholastic “Read-A-Palooza” Summer Reading Challenge – Log the minutes your child reads online and will be able to participate in a World Record challenge as well as earn digital prizes!
- Six Flags “Read to Succeed” – Children who complete six hours of recreational reading earn a free ticket to Six Flags!
- Sylvan Learning “Book Adventure” – Child reads books and then takes a quiz to make sure they comprehend what they read. They earn points based on how much they remember from reading the book.
- Your Local Public Library – Check with your local library, they will usually have a reading program that includes books and other prizes.

This woulda definitely got me reading more when I was a kid, lol. I remember having summer reading for Honors English – whew, man did I procrastinate on that!
That was my hope when creating this list… That these programs would excite kids to read more.
I heard if you delay your child’s reading skill development until he or she enters school, you are putting your child at risk…
Did you know that 67% of all Grade 4 students cannot read at a proficient level!
I did not know that. Reading is very important, we ready everyday in our home 🙂
