I’d Blow Bubbles All Day

01 Mar

People-oriented design

Few things make me all giddy inside like this chair. The symmetrical faces that make up the Random8′s octogonal form display a spectrum of colors that shimmer & change by interfering with light wavelengths passing through. Similar to iridescent bubbles, light is not only reflected, but refracted into a prismatic display of color that changes as the viewer’s perspective shifts.

The dichroic treatment of the Plexiglas provides the ambient floors and walls with original lighting effects dependent on the incoming light and surfaces on which the refracted light is cast.  This chair is definitely unique in that it looks different from one room to the next, reflecting and changing as it takes in surrounding elements.

People-oriented design

Question: How do you make a unique lamp?
Answer: Use laser cut plexi glass and one hundred translucent micro-cassettes!

I’m talking about the Tape Lamp; gorgeous, snazzy and so DIY, yet classy! Fitted with a 40 watt Vida Large G-16.5 Globe A tribute to the 80’s kitsch style!

Update: Apologies for the error in price, it is indeed for $1200, with a shipping price of $35! Thanks to the many comments that came in pointing out the errata.

All Wood iPhone Amplifier

27 Nov

People-oriented design

Uh oh, look at this little beauty. Just what the doctor ordered. Need to listen to some fabulous banjo music but your electronic amp broke? No problem, just dunk your iPhone into this baby right here. It’s an iPhone dock that fits snugly around your precious smartphone and amps up the tunes with simple science. Through these two precision cut holes the music will bounce louder than they came. Very luxuriously done!

The people at Koostik aren’t messing around. They had one fantastic concept – to amplify the sounds of the iPhone with no electronics at all. What a challenge, and what a solution. Look at these lovely creations, available in multiple wood combinations. Watch the video for an instant understanding of the whole project.

A Seat for All Cool Jazz Readers

27 Nov

People-oriented design

DEDE DextrousDesign you guys did it again! This time it’s a completely amazing two-in-one chair that not only allows you to sit, but it takes care of your books as well. How? There’s no shelves or anything! Ah, but there is. Right behind your butt. There you can slip in a magazine or two, or maybe even a short novel. Then if you’re reading something very interesting but must take a short snack break, you can use the gap under your forearm to hold your page. Glorious!

I don’t know what it is, something about this chair makes me think of smooth jazz flutes just jamming out a little bit while I read my book in a coffee shop. You know where these chairs would work out really well? Probably that same coffee shop. Man that’d be beautiful.

Spoon For All Seasons

25 Nov

People-oriented design

The Clever Spoon is a really nifty tool to have around the kitchen. The video demo shows just how easy it is to measure different portions using this one tool. A quick slide up and down and you are ready to use! I love the fact that it completely disassembles for a thorough clean up!
