Did you know you can use washable tempera paint to create the look of “stained glass” on your windows?  A few days ago my six-year-old daughter and  I painted the front windows of our playroom, something we have wanted to do for a while now. (*Bonus, it blocks out people passing by from being able to see in!) We are so very happy with the results, I  hope you love our stained glass art as much as we do!

DIRECTIONS

First, my husband and I taped off the main window with 1 inch masking tape you can also use painters tape.

Using flat & round-tipped paintbrushes, our daughter used tempera paint to paint all the areas she could reach on the step ladder <3 Here is our little artist busy in her zone!

Adding the final touches!

Inside the window before and after the tape removal

For the two long windows, I taped stencils to the outside of each pane. I used a black acrylic paint pen to trace the stencil, then used colored acrylic paint pens and tempera paint to colorize the pictures, free handing the extra details. Please note: if your windows are tinted do not use acrylic paint as you will need to use a razor to scrape off when ready to remove.

With most everyone being quarantined right now due to COVID-19, many people in our neighborhood are putting teddy bears in their windows for when families are on walks with their kids they can go on a “bear hunt”. So, of course, I had to paint a teddy bear in our window. 🙂

Isn’t it lovely!

Check out the windows at night from the outside!

My friend Becca gave me permission to share her home windows that she painted, with an important message “Save Lives Stay Home”  <3

This looks so fun! I love the stained glass look, and the way the outline from the tape looks is really cool! I’ll have to try this with my kids.

    1. We had so much fun designing and painting our stained glass windows and we get to enjoy looking at them while playing in our playroom everyday <3 Your kids will love it!

You all did a great job on this! Such a great way to creatively decorate the windows. I like that people can’t see in too.
